Lodovico Antinori

Marchese Lodovico Antinori is one of the most influential figures in modern Tuscan wine. In 1981, he founded Ornellaia near Bolgheri and played a defining role in the creation of both Ornellaia and Masseto, wines that helped establish coastal Tuscany as a source of internationally celebrated Bordeaux-style reds.

After leaving Ornellaia, Lodovico joined his brother Piero Antinori and nephew Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi to establish Tenuta di Biserno in Bibbona, just north of Bolgheri. The estate’s rocky soils and maritime climate proved particularly suited to Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. His later projects continue this exploration of Cabernet Franc, including the limited-production Lodovico wine and Tenuta del Nicchio.
