Anwilka

Anwilka was founded in the late 1990s by former Klein Constantia owner Lowell Jooste in partnership with Bordeaux figures Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus and Bruno Prats, formerly of Château Cos d’Estournel. Their shared goal was to create an exceptional South African red wine combining Stellenbosch fruit with Bordeaux winemaking experience.

The estate comprises approximately 40 hectares in Stellenbosch’s Helderberg region, just seven kilometers from the ocean. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah dominate the vineyards, with smaller plantings of other Bordeaux varieties. Anwilka released its inaugural vintage in 2005 and merged with Klein Constantia in 2012. Since 2021, winemaking has been led by Matthew Day, who continues to emphasize the estate’s combination of ripe fruit, structure and maritime freshness.
